Centenary of the Girl Guides Movement

The Girl Guides movement was started by Agnes Baden-Powell in the United Kingdom in 1910. Her brother, Robert Baden-Powell founded the Scouting movement some years earlier. The Girl Guides Movement focuses on female-centred programmes that embody physical fitness, domestic and survival skills, camping, citizenship training and career
preparation.

In Barbados, the Girl Guides Association was started in 1918 by Lady O’Brien, wife of the then Governor of the island.

The Girl Guides Movement includes Blossoms (ages 4 – 7), Brownies (6 – 11), Girl Guides (9 – 16) and Rangers (14 – 25).

The Commemorative set, Centenary of the Girl Guides Movement, features a souvenir sheet for $3.50 as well as stamps in the denominations of: 10˘, 50˘, $1.00 and $2.50.
