of the Girl Guides Movement
The Girl
Guides movement was started by Agnes Baden-Powell in the United Kingdom in 1910. Her brother, Robert Baden-Powell founded the Scouting movement some years earlier. The Girl Guides Movement focuses on female-centred programmes that embody physical fitness, domestic and survival skills, camping, citizenship training and career
preparation.
In
Barbados, the Girl Guides Association was started in 1918 by Lady O’Brien, wife of the then Governor of the island.
The Girl
Guides Movement includes Blossoms (ages 4 – 7), Brownies (6 – 11), Girl Guides (9 – 16) and Rangers (14 – 25).
The
Commemorative set, Centenary of the Girl Guides Movement, features a souvenir sheet for $3.50 as well as stamps in the denominations of: 10˘, 50˘, $1.00 and $2.50.
